Begbrook Primary celebrates Eco School status
Begbrook Primary Academy (BPA) has officially been named an Eco School, earning the internationally-recognised Green Flag Award for its commitment to environmental excellence.
This prestigious award highlights the academy’s dedication to developing a culture of sustainability and ecological responsibility among pupils, staff, and the wider community.
As part of the journey to becoming an Eco School, BPA held regular meetings to discuss and implement initiatives designed to make the school more environmentally friendly. Key activities included:
- Cut Your Carbon Month: A focused campaign encouraging pupils and staff to find creative ways to reduce their carbon footprints.
- Eco afternoon: A hands-on event where pupils planted greenery across the school grounds, enhancing biodiversity.
- Eco displays and posters: Informative and engaging visual materials created by pupils to raise awareness about environmental issues.
- Litter-picking drives: School-wide efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment by collecting and properly disposing of waste.
- Energy-saving campaigns: Initiatives to encourage simple actions, such as turning off lights and devices when not in use, to conserve energy.
The Green Flag Award is a global symbol of environmental stewardship and sustainability, and earning it underscores BPA’s credibility as a leader in eco-conscious education.
Sian Adams, Vice Principal at Begbrook Primary Academy, said: “We are incredibly proud of the efforts of our pupils and staff in achieving this milestone.
“Becoming an Eco School is more than just a badge; it reflects our deep commitment to protecting the environment and empowering the next generation to take an active role in creating a sustainable future.”
