Term 6, Week 3 – Safe Play

Safe Play

This week we talked to the children about safe and not safe play at lunchtime.
We have included this as part of our safeguarding weekly theme curriculum because there seems to be an increase in children ‘playing rough’ or play fighting at lunchtimes.
What seems like fun can easily stop being fun.

Sometimes when people pretend to fight, it can quickly turn into real fighting.

It’s also hard to tell the difference between play fighting and real fighting, so it can make others feel worried or unsafe.

People can get hurt by accident – even if you’re just playing, your body is still strong. One push or hit can hurt someone without meaning to.

Not everyone enjoys it– some people don’t like rough play, even if they don’t say so. W
e need to make sure everyone feels safe. Here are some ideas of games that children can play at break time and lunch time.
