Mental Health and Wellbeing

It is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week and so, as part of this week, we talked to children about Mental Health – what it is and what we can do to promote a positive mental health and wellbeing.

In our daily reviews and Friday’s PSHE session, we used the following information to talk to children about mental health:

• What is mental health? We all have mental health. Your mental health affects how you feel, think and act. Your mental health can change on a daily basis and over time, and can be affected by a range of factors. It’s important to look after your mental health, as you would look after your physical health. Your state of wellbeing affects how you cope with stress, relate to others and make choices. It also plays a part in your relationships with your family, community and friends.

• How can we promote a positive mental health? Evidence suggests there are 5 steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing. Trying these things could help you feel more positive and able to get the most out of life. The 5 steps are what we know as the ‘5 ways to wellbeing’:
