Term 3, Week 1 - Speak out. Stay Safe.

Speak out. Stay Safe.

As we do at the start of each term, this week we have been talking to children about NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay Safe initiative. The purpose of this weekly theme is to help children know their rights – this has been really helpful to have as a talking point when children are worried about talking to an adult about something worrying.

Last term, we (the safeguarding team) carried out a book look to have a look at our safeguarding weekly themes and the things children were demonstrating they had learnt about keeping themselves safe. One thing we noticed when reviewing the ‘Speak out. Stay Safe’ theme, was that children were recalling what to do when they have a worry, rather than being able to talk about what their rights are to being safe and so this term, in daily reviews and Friday’s PSHE session, we really focused on talking to children about what we mean by ‘children’s rights’. We uses the wording below, to remind children about their right to being safe:

Ask your child if they can remember what their rights are!
