Term 2, Week 7 – Online Safety

Online Safety
As you know, we always speak to children about online safety in our last safeguarding weekly theme of each term. This is because in the holidays, children are likely to spend an increased amount of time online.
The focus of this term’s online safety safeguarding weekly theme was: Using the internet for good and knowing the bad.
In daily reviews and Friday’s PSHE session, we used the following questions prompts to help us think about using the internet:
EYFS – what should you do if you see something worrying when using a phone, ipad or other device?
Y1 – What amazing things can we do online? How can we stay safe while exploring?
Y2 – What good things can we get from being online — and what can be unkind or unhelpful?
Y3 – How can I use the internet to have a positive impact? What makes online information helpful or harmful?
Y4 – How do algorithms decide what we see online? How can the internet cause a negative impact?
Y5 – How can I tell if something I see is real, fake, or AI-generated?
Y6 – How do we manage difficult situations online, and how can AI or misinformation affect our reputation or wellbeing?
In addition to our year group focus questions, we talked about how to keep safe online, remembering the SMART rules for online safety:
