Term 2, Week 5 – Lockdown Alarm
Lockdown alarm – what is it and what do we do when we hear it?
This week we helped children understand our lockdown procedures – focusing on why we have a lockdown procedure, what the new lockdown alarm sounds like and what to do in the event of the lockdown alarm sounding. The following information was shared with children in daily reviews and Friday’s PSHE session:
- Why do we have a lockdown procedure? We have a lockdown alarm for when something outside is unsafe – this could be an unsafe person or animal. We lockdown by staying inside the building, shutting the windows, closing the blinds and locking the doors. The site team and our Academy leaders (Miss Counsell, Miss Adams, Miss Allen and Mrs Skade) will let us know when it is safe to finish the lockdown.
- What does the lockdown alarm sound like? Our new lockdown alarm is a wailing siren that starts and then stops and then starts again. Click here for the sound: Lockdown alarm.MOV
- What to do in the event of the lockdown alarm sounding? When the lockdown alarm sounds, children need to silently move out of sight from windows and doors – this will mostly be going under tables in classrooms. If you are outside, you need to go to the nearest door and hide in that room. School adults will lock doors, close windows and shut the blinds. You need to stay silent until our school leaders tell you it is safe for the lockdown to end.
