Term 3, Week 6 – Online Safety
Online Safety
This week, have been reminding children about keeping safe online.
In Preschool, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we have been reminding children about the Stay Smart Online rules. We used the poster below to see if they could remember what each word stands for. Ask your child to see if they can still remember at home!
In Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, we have been thinking about Online Wellbeing. We talked to the children about the following information:
- There are lots of positives for being online – learning new things, connecting with family and friends who live far away and finding out important news from around the world. Can you think of anymore?
- Being online can also have a negative impact on people too. It can become overwhelming trying to keep up with friends and the pressure can sometimes feel too much.
- Many things can impact our online wellbeing, but the good news is that you can take control of the choices you make to reduce any negativity or pressure you are feeling from being online. Being aware of the things that make you feel bad online is the first step to managing your online wellbeing. Have a think about:
- The things you see online – how do they make you feel?
- The people you talk to online – how do they make you feel?
- How much time are you online? Do you spend the same amount of time doing other activities?
